IF YOU WERE TO BE QUEEN
VASHTI, WHAT WILL YOU DO?
Esther 1:12 But the queen Vashti refused to come at the king's commandment by his chamberlains: therefore was the king very
wroth, and his anger burned in him.
Everybody
love the story of Esther, one of my favorite book of the Bible is The book of
Esther. We all love to be like her, we love to tell our children her stories. Her
story is good to hear for it has a lot of lessons in it.
The
king ordered Queen Vashti to come and showcase her beauty to the whole empire. She
refused the king's command, some says it was because she was proud.
But let's
look at it from another angle, the king was drunk with the others in the royal
kingdom, what do you imagine could have happened to the queen if she should not
refuse the order?
Put yourself
in her shoes. Would you love to be humiliated in front of everybody?
"Whenever men are overcome with wine, there
is grave peril for women. Coarseness, indelicacy, and impurity troop in at the
door, which has been unlocked by the excess of wine. Who can tell the anguish
which has been caused to women, children, and the dumb creation through the
intemperance of man! Here is given a glimpse of a noble woman, who respected
herself too highly to yield to a demand, wholly foreign to the customs of the
time, which forbade women to appear in public. Of course the king was incensed,
all the more so because he knew that he was in the wrong. He had command over
127 provinces, but he could not rule his own spirit, and the sense of moral
weakness is always irritating." F. B. Meyer
God has a plan for everybody. That confusion was created amidst
the kingdom to bring in Esther.
